Jacob Gray

Fund Manager and Managing Partner

Jacob Gray is a Fund Manager of Murex Investments.  Mr. Gray has ten years of experience in marketing and strategy, and has served as lead or co-lead on 17 venture capital transactions, including successful investment in the learning technology and digital media industries.  He has worked closely with Mr. Steiker since 1999.

Mr. Gray managed Murex’ investment in AnySource Media, LLC, an internet-connected HDTV technology company that was successfully sold in August 2009 to DivX (Nasdaq: DIVX).  Mr. Gray was instrumental in setting management structure and deal terms through three rounds of financing.  Mr. Gray also manages Murex’ investment in Advanced Workstations in Education (AWE), and serves on the AWE board.  AWE is a learning-technology development and marketing company.  AWE has grown to dominate learning technology in the public library space and is now approaching adjacent markets. Mr. Gray provides input in strategic positioning, product development, fiscal management and fundraising.

Mr. Gray has been instrumental in forming, licensing, capitalizing and maintaining compliance in a variety of investment vehicles, including a Small Business Administration-licensed New Markets Venture Capital Company.  Mr. Gray has sourced, negotiated and closed investment from financial institutions, religious organizations, government, foundations, and insurance companies.

Before joining Murex, Mr. Gray directed a Philadelphia-based incubator serving more than 50 incubated companies.  Mr. Gray’s expertise in learning technology and clean technology investing is also informed by his early-career experiences teaching chemistry, physics, environmental science and ecology.

Mr. Gray is a Founder and Board member of GoodCompany Ventures, a Philadelphia-based incubator for high-growth start-up businesses.  Mr. Gray co-founded the first regional chapter of Investor’s Circle, one of the largest national networks of angel investors and professional venture capitalists, and the only such group using private capital to promote the transition to a sustainable economy.  He is an Advisory Board member of the Pennsylvania Green Growth Partnership, a project dedicated to growing Pennsylvania’s green building-materials sector.  Mr. Gray earned his B.A. from Brown University.
